Physician
Stephen Shrewsbury – trained as a physician at Liverpool University, one of the UK’s “red brick” colleges before spending 13 years working in the National Health Service. He specialized in primary Care and Pulmonology before joining Allen & Hanburys, the pulmonary arm of Glaxo. He held honorary appointments at the University of Southampton, Department of Child Health, and the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the National Heart & Lung Institute at London’s Royal Brompton hospital, before accepting an overseas appointment with Glaxo in 2000.
He now lives in Fallbrook, California with his wife, Evelyn; German Shepherd dog, Merlin, and four cats, Ajax, Missy, Xena and Raven. Three of his children are also qualified physicians working in the UK.
He has been a serial West Coast Chief Medical Officer for 6 companies, helping take three public, most recently Impel Pharmaceuticals Inc. based in Seattle, WA (until March 2023), but worked from home, like many others during the COVID pandemic, and thereafter.
Now, through his Shrewd Consulting LLC business, he is helping many small biotech companies, especially those with programs utilizing inhaled delivery through nose or lung, with their evolving clinical development projects. He has ongoing work reviewing articles for multiple journals and acting as an expert witness.
He is the author of Defy Your DNA (published 2013), many scientific abstracts (>180 and counting) presentations and full scientific publications (>45 and counting), several frequently cited (e.g. MIASMA, DHE – Then and Now, The Upper Nasal Space and more). More recently, in 2024, he collated and edited Migraine Pain Management for Elsevier, available here, which has rapidly become a valuable tool for those researching or working in headache medicine.
